Blizzard wins Warcraft bot battle

Blizzard has won the first round of a legal battle against the maker of software that automates game play in World of Warcraft.

It brought the case against MDY Industries claiming its WowGlider program infringed its copyright.

An Arizona district court has ruled MDY does infringe Blizzard's copyright but not in the way the game maker claimed.

WowGlider controls characters in Warcraft so they kill enemies and loot them automatically.

Damage claim

The summary judgement by US District Court Judge David Campbell says that MMOGlider, as the software is now called, breaks the terms of the license players agree to abide by when they run World of Warcraft (WoW).

Despite this decision Justice Campbell did not side with Blizzard in its claim that MMOGlider broke the terms of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

MMOGlider is the creation of MDY founder Michael Donnelly and more than 100,000 copies of the $25 (£12.47) tool are thought to have been sold.

It has proved popular as it helps players overcome the "grind" involved in turning low level WoW characters into more powerful ones.

Blizzard launched the case in 2006 via a lawyer from Vivendi, which publish WoW, who visited Mr Donnelly at home accompanied by a private investigator who told him to stop selling the software and hand over profits from it to Blizzard.

"Offended" by these threats Mr Donnelly decided to take Blizzard on in the courts.

Unless Blizzard and MDY settle out of court the case looks set to go before a jury in September. This court case will decide some of the issues the Judge did not pronounce on and address the question of whether Blizzard is due damages.

World of Warcraft Cheat Tips

World of Warcraft rocks. I wish I could play it for a living. But since I am not a professional video game player like Brian Kopp, I’ll have to settle for obsessing over it when I get home from work. Once you get to level 60 it is a whole other world (of warcraft) let me tell you. I mean it is amazing. The developers of this game obviously thought ahead and really wanted to reward the successful power levelers. They should get like an award or something – oh, wait they did.

Yeah you are going to want to get to level 60 and 70. It is well worth it. But you want to enjoy the ride as well. You want to discover the totally cool stuff you can do along the way. Well it just so happens that the totally cool stuff is what gets you through the levels faster. And what’s wrong with a little guidance? I don’t know why guidance has to be referred to as a “cheat” or worse yet a “hack.” They are really just helpful tips. So let’s get it started in here.

Easy money. This works easily if you have high experience in Herbalism, First
Aid, Skinning, Leather Working, etc. Get the materials needed for what
you want to make. For example, for First Aid, kill lots of humanoids
for linen cloth, wool cloth, etc. Then, just sell the materials to an
NPC. If you want more money (for example for Skinning and Leatherworking),
make something out of the leather, then sell or auction it off at the
nearest auction house.

Easy experience. An easy way to increase the speed of leveling up is being rested.
This will double the experience from killing enemies only. Discovering
an area will not get you double the experience. An easy way to get rested
is logging out at an inn. Whenever you know you are going to be away
from the game for awhile, try to log out while inside an inn. This will
get your player rested while you are away. To tell if your character is
rested, look up at the circle next to his or her portrait where it
shows your level. A "zzz" will be there instead of your level. This
indicates that you are rested. You can also tell if you are rested by looking
at your experience bar. The experience you have gained so far will be
blue and all of the experience you gain will be blue until you pass the
small marker on the experience bar.

Taming Animals. When your hunter is level 10, look for a hunter trainer and talk to
him/her about a pet. He/she will send you on 3 quests with an item
to tame animals. When you come back the third time you, and return the
item, talk to him/her. He/she will send you to another city who will
teach how to feed, dismiss, call, and a few other commands.

The best World of Warcraft Cheat Tips are in Brian Kopp’s Power Leveling guide at thetoprecruits.com. And if you would like to get a full time job as a video game tester, you can get 5 seriously hot free tips on how to land this dream job, for real, at this site. Later.
